4.24am: Snooze rings

4.30am: 2nd alarm rings
*snoozes while holding pee in
4.33am: 1st Snooze rings
*snoozes while holding pee in
4.39am: 2nd Snooze rings
*GAHHHHHHHHH

2 hours of sleep isn't enough, especially for aging people like me ._.
Diablo 3 is seriously a health and social killer man

Washed up and made Teh Tarik, then had breakfast I tarpao-ed yesterday:-
Bread Talk's 2x Fire Floss and 1x Standard Sauasage ^__^

Hurriedly gobbled up everything before rushing to catch the FIRST train @ 5.45am.
As expected, I was able to reach Lavender MRT slightly before 6.30am (which is our assembly time, bus goes off at 6.45am)

Met up with Philip at the Kopitiam Foodcourt and I called the Tour Guide according to the number on the picture KH sent us, to ask whats the Bus Number as there were 5 buses lined up along the road *_*
It was 6.40am but KH and YF (the organizers) had not reached yet, luckily they're nearby in a taxi.
Cherie and her friend Joanne put us aeroplane thou
I did my due diligence by calling Cherie yesterday evening, but she didn't pickup my call nor reply WhatsApp.
KH did his part by calling her at 6.15am, no answer.
Whatsapp her to tell her final chance is to meet us directly at Checkpoint, no reply
Guess she can't be fucked about it, oh well *rolls eyes*
There goes $120 (2x $60). But hey luckily they paid up already!

So we used their seats to hold our stuff for the rest of the day =3=
YF and Philip's bag. They brought tupperware to tarpao the durians. That's Philip's arm btw :P
Thankfully, KH & YF came along soon. Else if they missed the trip too it would be just Me, Philip and Me 3 people...

SO GHEY! NUUUUUUUUUU T_T

Sho, off we go to 2nd Link @ Tuas!

Before the story begins...
Happy Dumpling Festival!
端午节快乐!

NOT 粽子节 (literal translation) ok!
Likewise goes to Mooncake Festival... its 中秋节!NOT 月饼节 ok!
-end of mini language lesson-

Our bus number was 9966. Coincidentally we were going into Malaysia. And Malaysians love to say GAO LAT (96) !!! :P

The bus supposedly had Wifi (our's is the only bus that has! The other buses don't! ^^).
But when I tried, it didn't work. Oh well maybe it was something they used to have but not now.

After clearing Singapore Customs then Malaysian customs, YF made an interesting comment:
YF: Eh! Malaysia 的厕所有肥皂, Singapore 的厕所没有
Me: 可能 Malaysians 不洗手, that's why got soap
YF: 没有!应该是 Malaysians 有洗手, that's why got soap
Me: Singaporeans 洗手, that's why no soap, 因为soap 都用完了. But Malaysians 不洗手, that's why got soap.
YF: 没有!应该是 Malaysians 有洗手, that's why got soap
Me, KH, Philip: *SIGH* nvm logic fail

We each got a sticker as we got on the bus. It's to help differentiate us belonging to which Tour Group as there was ALOT of tour buses today.
Apple Holidays!
Just our Tour Group already has 3 buses.
Maybe people thought it would be a good idea to "celebrate"  端午节 by going up to Malaysia and eat durian? *_*

The Tour Guide started to talk and appeared to be a very friendly one (albeit sounding abit irritating coz he talk very "teh")
He tried to be cheeky and asked us to guess his Surname:

Question: 有一没有二,有三没有四,有东没有西

Can you get it?
No?
Answer: 陈
(actually pretty obvious with the 东 part, but what about the first 2 verses?)

The numbers are Arabic numbering, which is our 1 2 3 4.
So the 耳字旁 in 陈 on the left is written with 1 and 3!
Pretty cool once you know it huh =3=

-     BREAKFAST     -

We started off the day by driving to Gelang Patah, a small town in Johor Bahru.
According to the tour guide it's a place with quite a lot of food. But he set our expectations by saying the food is so-so only. Oh well, that's sad to hear ._.

Out of boredom, I tried the Wifi again and it worked!
LE YAY MOBILE WIFI WHEREVER I GO IN MSIA!!! (as long as I stay near the bus).

We settled for a Chinese coffeeshop-alike place to eat instead of Muslim food, looks pretty good!

We were given 30min to have our breakfast, sounds abit of a rush right?
I wanted to order 菜头粿, but it seems like a pretty long and slow queue.

So I gave up and went to order drinks on behalf of everyone instead. Maybe just sit down drink Teh in the morning sun, that sounds pretty chill too ^^

As this is only my 2nd time ordering drinks in Malaysia, I was extremely surprised at how different it is from Singapore.
Home-made drinks (like Barley) are self-service. Take yourself and go pay
Coffee and Tea you have to order, but it was a pretty HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE to watch (albeit eye opening one)!!!
These 2 malay bengs were making the drinks and they were doing it in super rush style

Example, this guy in front of me ordered 4 Tehs.
  • Sets 4 cups in a row.
  • Pours condensed milk over them in a line (spilling some into the gaps between the cups)
  • Pours tea into each cup in a line (spilling some into the gaps between the cups)
  • Pours hot water into each cup in a line (spilling some into the gaps between the cups)

CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW MUCH ARE SPILLED?!?!?!
The table they were making the drinks on IS FLOODED WITH whatever you call it.
It's not 鸳鸯 (coffee + tea), it's... chap ba lang. Every dunno what thing is mixed there lah!!

Anyway, here's what we had ^__^
White  菜头粿  and Teh O Gosong Ice
Black  菜头粿
Siew Mai, Egg with Meat, Tofu with Meat, Crab Stick with Meat

Sarawak Kolo Mee
Fried fritters. Msia version is so short (the middle part is adjoining to both pieces)
Tarpao-ed these nice looking Curry Puffs. Looks exactly the same as our old A1 Curry Puffs in SG

-     Yong Peng     -

The tour guide asked us for our Itinerary as he didn't have ours and didn't know where we're supposed to go
*gasp

Luckily one dude/dudette from our bus brought it along and he roughly announced the plans for today.
Silence ensued and people began falling asleep

Here's Philip falling fast asleep LOL

The bus drove us to Yong Peng and gave us a 5% discount card each (yay!)
It was SO SO SO crowded there I tell you...
Fcrowded
They have all kinds of stuff man... even weird shyt like this 0_o
Green Tea Coffee
In the end, I bought the below stuff for my parents

Recently tried the Lipton 3-in-1 Teh Tarik, good stuff! Buying this to compare standards
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE PASTRY! <3 Sadly it was not nice...  漏风了
Pineapple Cake
Pandan flavoured Tau Sa Piar
Testing out to see how different are the Spices used in Malaysia
-     Fuzhou Noodle Factory     -

We went down further the road and stopped outside this shop that sells (famous?) nice 光饼

This 方饼 comes in various flavours, Sesame, sweetened, gosong and maybe more. Didn't hang out to listen.

I tried a sampling and OH MY.
When you first put it in your mouth and bite. It tastes like a slightly tougher version of bread. Like just eating the crust of Gardenia bread.
OH WELL, taste ordinary *wonders what is the big fuss*
*continues chewing*
OMG, IT TASTES GEWD! The flavour slowly comes out as you chew it and kinda stays in your mouth, but not overpowering to make you feel sick of it.
I bought 5 of the Gosongs!
I bought Gao Sai too. Only ever tasted it once when I was young T_T
But wait, isn't this supposed to be Thai stuff? *_*
KH bought this sweet thingy from the shop. Pretty nice too!
 KH and his *enjoying face*
I bought a bottle of Passion Fruit Juice w/o sugar and walked on to the Fuzhou Noodle Factory.
Had to walk down an alley into some ulu place and suddenly we see this
Doesn't it resemble a temple?
It's actually a house. But they converted it into a factory. Everything is home made here.
This shop/factory is extremely small, probably no larger than my home. And you know SG HDB flats are small ._.
You can buy the noodles here
Below is the inner room where they make the dough and flatten it.
How they flatten it? Read on
They make the dough from the machine. then put it on a table.
They'll insert a pole into the brick wall, then put the other end of the pole UNDER HIS GROIN.
He'll then jump to n fro to flatten the dough thoroughly.
*boing boing boing

Sadly the Fuzhou owners were short staffed today and we weren't able to see a live demo =\

NO. Obviously this bangla is not from Fuzhou

-     Durian Feast     -

Ahh... the main highlight of this trip.

Along the way, the tour guide asked if we wanna buy Muar's Otah (supposedly GODLY)
He would call up a supplier to order, and would pickup at some place on the way back to SG (won't pass by Muar).
They had so many fanciful flavours I never thought existed in Otah. I thought Otah is just fish only?!
Flavour available: Fish, Prawn, Crab, Sotong, Lala, Fish head (with bones)
I received this later today after dinner
They started playing a Movie on the screen in front of the bus: Johnny English Reborn
I slept through the movie though =3=

After some time, we arrived at Tangkak Quarry....

Tables first come first served! Luckily we were one of the first few buses (out of the 10+ that were coming). CHIONG AH!!!
Durians are free to take. We've already paid for it in our tour fare. Just queue up and take only. The workers there will help you open =D
Queueing up to take the durians
Le Yums! 黄肉 and bitter is the best!
Good shtuff. Twas hard for me to get their hands AWAY so that I can take a pic ._.
No good can slap my face

KH's photography skill needs improving. Why so blur );
*sad face @ blur pic... oh well

The first 3 durians were PHWOARRRRRR. THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!
Sadly... the subsequent durians' quality started to deteriorate. Was it coz the good ones was given away already? (first come first served)
Or issit coz they see us keep coming back to Q up and take non stop so fast, they're pissed and purposely chose lousy ones for us?

I'll like to believe the 2nd idea :P
We had some quite nice ones again towards the end, but I was getting full so I stopped ._.
All in all, excluding throwing away the unedible ones, we had 14 whooping durians =D

The place also provided Curry Puffs, Goreng Pisang and cut watermelons too! (all FOC mind you)

The tour guide also taught us how to rid our hands of the durian smell that normally lingers on your fingers hours after you ate it.
After you finish the durian, take an empty shell, reverse it, and pour water over it. The water that flows down from the shell, use it to wash your hands.
一物克一物 he says 0_o

I FORGOT TO TRY LOL.

The tour guide from the other bus walked around offering us salt to drink the water from the shells. Good Service!

The tour guide didn't recommend us tarpao-ing durians back because we couldn't keep it with us at our seats. And even if we put it into the tupperware we brought, it can only be put in the luggage compartment. Due to the heat the durians will 出水 and won't be as nice when we reach SG tonight.

I guess we'll just eat at Geylang or Toa Payoh if we have a craving again =3=
The takeaway counter
So we left this place with our stomachs filled to the brim with durian and happy =D
Careful! Durians everywhere, hopefully it won't drop on your head

-     Lunch     -

Reached this restaurant at 2.15pm.
Interesting to note that they included AIRCON into their name. Maybe aircon is rare in Malaysia's Restaurants?

Lunch was simple and not that heavy. It's "free"! (paid for in our tour package)
Wanton Hor Fun, Sweet Sour Fish, Yong Tau Fu, 罗汉斋 and Rojak Chicken.
Yes you heard it right, Rojak Chicken. Its fried chicken that's cut up in pieces, then they apply the Rojak on it... Turnip, Fried Fritters, Rojak sauce, peanuts, the works. ROJAK lah!

Our bus split into 4 tables.
My group of 4 shared table with another group of 6 (all gals group, girls and aunties) to make a table of 10.
They all went to the guy's toilet coz we were rushing to get back to the bus. They caused us to be late for 10min still :P

 -     Brown Rice Factory     -

Reached at 3.15pm.
Prior to this the movie ended. So they played Real Steel after that. It's not bad but I've watched it before so another zzz time for me :3

This place sells everything related to Brown Rice man...
Coffee, Cereal, Mee, Mee Sua, La Mian, Bee Hoon, Black Bean and Brown Rice Drink (黑金) and even tidbits that looks like Super Rings! And many more!
Flavours available are Original, Cheese, Curry, Tomato and Onion

Let me say this again, the above stuff I mentioned are ALL MADE FROM BROWN RICE

Yeah I know my finger is in the way :3
Bought this for my parents as I know they liked it. They bought something similiar in SG before
Brown Rice Tea
After exiting from the brown rice stall, here's an update to our extra seat. Overflowing yet?
We paid $120 to have extra seats to put our stuff =3=

 -     Shopping!     -

As per requests from the Aunties, we had abit of time to do shopping.
We were brought to Tesco Kulai, and given 1hour to shop

My Malaysia friend (you know who you are) intro-ed me this thing we DO NOT HAVE IN SINGAPORE.
Cheesy Wedges from KFC
After I bought this, all of them said: "I only wanna try abit... I take one/small piece can le"
But they kept digging for more F5

Walked around Tesco for and randomly bought some stuff for myself
STUPID TESCO DOESN'T GIVE PLASTIC BAGS!
Was complaining about it as I walked away. Probably they're like Ikea, each plastic bag must pay 20cents.
Nevermind I can stuff them all into my pocket  ._.

 -     Dinner     -

We came to this restaurant for dinner. Notice the word AIR CON in their name again?

This place looks expensive
We had an 8 course meal, which was pretty awesome.Because Lunch Durian Dinner Transport all paid for! I only spent on my shopping :)

Problem with this place was, a very big problem, they serve dishes TOO FAST.
They serve literally one plate every 1-2minutes.
So while you barely started/finished a dish, the next one comes

We had to clear the half finished plate onto our plates hastily so that the new dish could be served.
Can't you wait till we finish one plate before you do it? F5

Cold Platter
Braised Duck
Cereal Prawn
Steamed Red Garoupa
For the fish, since it was 2 groups mixed into 1 table. I took the initiative to minimize the difficulty in eating the fish.
Using the spoon, I deboned the entire fish. Cheeks and stomach included, and lathered all the cut up meat with the Soya Sauce again. From there they made remarks of how Teochew people are PRO fish eaters and this is our specialty.
SRSLY, I was never taught anything about fishes. I just eat them regularly 0_o

Long Beans and Ladyfingers with Sambal and Belachan
Kong Ba Pau
Rice and Fruits weren't captured in photos, no point.
We then took the bus and came back to SG.

THE END
*waves*
