(Part-Time) University Life

It has been a month... OK... 5 weeks to be exact, and it's starting to extract it's toll on me.

Every term (3mths) there's 2 modules. Classes and Assignments are done within 2mths, then 1 week for revision, 1 week of exams and 2 weeks term break before the next Term starts.

Almost every week there's 4 days of lessons: Mon, Wed, Thurs & Fri.
Which means 3 days to rest, do Assignments (including meet up to discuss!) and your social activities.

Sufficient? Hardly.
In fact I had to chiong my Assignments till 3-4am almost everyday. The days I don't are simply because I'm too tired to do so ._.

The current 2 modules are Java Programming, and UML (software design methodology).
I can frankly tell you that Java is the reason for all this hell I'm going through.
The lecturer's teaching style implies she expects us to know our basics since we're Year2, and she knows most students have already gone through the other 3 terms of Year2.

IMHO, she simply CBFed.
She just READS WORD FOR WORD through the slides. Heck she doesn't even read everything, she just reads part of it and skips some.

I've got a good idea. Why don't I pay the $2000+ to some random primary school kid and have the kid read it to me? DUH

Random course-mates I talk to agree with me unanimously that this is the worst lecturer they've seen so far.
They tell me in their other Year1 or Year2 programming subjects, their AWESOME lecturer explains in their own words if the lecture notes are vague, gives examples and even writes codes on the spot to demonstrate how it's being used BEFORE they move on the the next slide.

Before you say nonchalant stuff like... "if you don't know, ask lor!". Let me assure you... I DID!!!!
Here are her responses to my questions:
"I'm not sure..."
"I don't know..."
"I've never tried this before..." and
"You need to read up more on your own"

How can a lecturer not know how to teach the course notes/material? I really doubt the validity of her Doctorate (yes she's a DR).

Programming is especially demanding for me since...
- I do not have the foundations from Year1 (I am direct entry into Year2 from the credentials of my Diploma)
- Nor the familiarity of doing a similar subject in the later part of Year2 (which according to my lecturer, 80% of the others have completed already).
- And when I was in Poly, I skipped all the tutorials and played Dai Di at the last rows during Lectures.

I recognize that its my own fault, and I'm essentially picking up both Poly/Uni skills at the same time here.

It was all so stressful that 2 weeks ago, I almost broke down.
  • I was stuck in my Java assignment.
  • Extremely deprived of social contact.
  • The construction noise from downstairs (I live on level 2) was and is driving me nuts.
  • My house's A/C broke down. Dad bought a new one and asked for the 1K+ share from me. This was during a time I didn't even have $ to eat breakfast/lunch at work, as I was literally broke from buying the School Laptop and paying school fees.
  • I lost my house key and felt so guilty. My dad kindly replaced the door lock immediately though. I FOUND THE KEY LATER THAT DAY
  • The tipping point came when halfway while coding my Java, my chair broke. YES MY CHAIR BROKE INTO TWO!!!
Needless to say I have since bought a replacement
From IKEA!

Hmm... about my course mates, how many have I known so far?
There's around 30 ppl in my current session(term).
I'm Year2 Term1, but almost everybody else that I've talked to are Term4 now.

As I've mentioned before, almost everybody is solo. Probably because we're mostly working adults and tend to be independent? Groups are rare in my class *_*

On my 2nd day, I turned around and said "Hi!" to this China guy.
I'm not sure if his name is Bryll or Brill. His articulation wasn't fantastic. Hardly talked to him ever since coz he either doesn't come for classes, or chooses to sit at a far away corner.

On my 3rd day, I said "Hi!" to this guy I saw before at my workplace in January (I don't know him, just saw him before!). His name is Jonathan.
His group of 4 comes to classes ~7.45pm due to work commitments, and somehow loves to sit at the last row.
Their beloved last row is cramped, air is stuffy (A/C doesn't circulate there I guess), and it's so far from the screen.
His group recruited me for the UML assignments which required groups of 5s (;
But, because of the above mentioned issues, I still sit alone in front till this date.

On my 4th day, I recognized this Indian from my class when I walked in from the bus stop. His name is Matthew.
Talked to him till we reached class when he announced he is only here to scan attendance. He can't be bothered to attend the lessons because of the above mentioned reasons with that certain Doctor.

There's this other group of 4 that sometimes sits behind/beside me. I randomly talked to 1 of them and now maintains "Hi, Yo" acquaintance relationship. His name is Fabian.

There's also this group of 3 China programmers, of which 1 I spoke a few sentences to. His name is Qiu.

That's all I've spoken to, which is half the class already -_-
The other half I haven't spoken to either hardly appear in class, or you know they're douches from their looks :P

Classes are extremely quiet and serious.
Everybody just comes, listens to class, pees during toilet break, then goes home. Nobody talks.
If you try really hard... you can hear a pin drop from someone else's thought.
In other words, don't fart! Everyone can surely hear :3

I seem to be the outstanding one / freak because I am the ONLY ONE whom asks questions during classes, and I actually talk to random people every now and then.

This isn't the kind of University life that I was expecting T__T
My friends' college and uni life sounds so fawesome in contrast.

My social life has been reduced to Whatsapp-ing...
My entertainment has been reduced to Scramble with Friends...

Guess how I feel when my Whatsapp messages are ignored and the Scramble games are resigned?

And the verdict is...

FAWESOME!

Anyway's I'm referring to my a-JAYS Four earphones I bought last month =D

Let's start with the CONs before we move on the PROs shall we...

CONs
In summary, it is... uncomfortable ):
The tangle free flat cable design feels heavier and weighs in on your earlobes.
Unlike traditional normal round cables that are so tiny till you can hardly feel it, you can really feel this thang.
In stationary position, it's not that bad. You can actually adjust it till you don't feel it that much.
But once you start walking, chasing after the bus/mrt or just trying to get out of a fart cloud someone just unleashed on ya, that's where it may get on your nerves, literally.

Thing is, all the good sounding earphones that I've tried are uncomfortable, so I think I can accept it :3

PROs
The highs are higher, the lows are lower.
Bass is decent and not overpowering till it ruins the music
The treble that I always emphasize on is terrific!
In fact, everything sounds so crisp and alive on this earphones!
ONLY if you get a right fit for your ears though. Not to worry, coz it comes with custom sized ear buds in 5 sizes! (other premium earphones only come with 3 at most)

And here's my favourite part... which I repeat... is FAWESOME.

I can hear instruments on my favourite songs that I've never heard before!

Those songs that I've replayed countless times, focusing on the various instruments and beats or just plain vocals.
I can hear new things now, sometimes even instruments that I've never noticed before on my old earphones or desktop speakers!

To be able to enjoy your old classics again, that feeling is akin to...
Reliving your first crush
The first time you had a cheeseburger
The first time you had a mentos

You know... those goosebumps on your hand feeling thingy... that's what I'm talking about!

So yeah, I am loving my earphones... albeit the uncomfortableness puts me off a 'lil sometimes.
You can ask me for a trial if you do see me (=
